Film and TV
At Small Hope, we have been fortunate to host some truly great and entertaining shows and production companies. There is really something for everyone here, including these programs. Check out the links to the shows below and see if you can spot the Small Hope staff and grounds!
"The whole shoot was an absolute joy"River Monsters, Animal Planet May, 2015
The production team was heading to Andros to explore its fantastic Blue holes in search of the infamous Lusca and to also go after the world class Bone Fish. Normally we have to combine various companies, people and resources such as guides, transportation, dive gear, accommodation, food so that we can achieve our filming aims, but thanks to Small Hope that massive logistical challenge was taken care of.
Andros is a remote island community and to find such a fantastic place to act as our base camp and to facilitate our every need was absolutely amazing. Jeff and his team really went above and beyond with our filming requests (that were sometimes last minute due to plans changing). From finding the best fishing guides, providing professional diving support, supplying island transportation and even flying crew members to a different island, no request was too much trouble for team at small hope.
All of this support was set against the beautiful idyllic surroundings of Small Hope lodge, the accommodation was great and the food fantastic (Conch fritters went down especially well with the crew) that the whole shoot was an absolute joy, aiding us to get the shots we required and end up with superb film I wouldn’t hesitate to use Jeff and his team for future filming and would recommend anyone to visit there whilst on Andros.
"Ideal for a Production"Great Blue Wild: Bahamas, Love Nature Channel May, 2015
Our crew of four stayed at Small Hope Bay Lodge while we shot two nature documentaries: one on the underwater kingdom of the Bahamas; the other an aerial show on the natural history of the islands.
During our stay, Jeff Birch and his team were an invaluable part of our production. For our underwater film – Great Blue Wild: Bahamas - we interviewed Jeff and three of the Small Hope dive masters, all of whom shared their insight on the creatures and seascapes that make the Bahamas a mecca for undersea explorers.
The lodge’s Andros location – on the beach, fringed by the Bahamas Barrier Reef and near many of the island’s inland blue holes – was ideal for a production on a tight schedule. Small Hope’s close proximity to unspoiled nature locales allowed us to minimize travel time.

"Ideal Base for our Production"Undiscovered Vistas: Bahamas, Love Nature Channel May, 2015
For our aerial film – Undiscovered Vistas: Bahamas – Jeff’s intimate knowledge of Andros was essential. He was able to tell us the quickest route to the best locations, what time of day they would look most stunning and the effects of changing tides on our shoots – crucial information you won’t find in the guide books.
Tarran Simms, one of Small Hope’s guides, shepherded us through many of the island’s most spectacular natural wonders. His precise knowledge of the island’s ecosystems was key. Tarran will feature in our aerial documentary.
And at the end of each long shoot day, we retired to Small Hope Bay Lodge for a delicious dinner served in an idyllic setting, surrounded by smart, interesting people – all of which made Small Hope Bay Lodge an ideal base for our production.Dan Hughes

Toronto, CanadaWhat an amazing place you have there at Small Hope Bay. The resort was beautiful and everyone there was very friendly, basically treating us like family. Our guide Tarran was a crucial part to the success of our filming experience. We couldn't have done it without his knowledge of the island and helpful spirit. The food was SO good! Fresh everyday and lots to choose from! I can honestly say it was the best food I've had when visiting any resort! We were able to accomplish so much due to everyone at Small Hope Bay and I hope I can come visit again soon!

"It's everything you need in one place"Jonathan Bird's Blue World, PBS April, 2010 & November, 2012
I have been to Small Hope Bay Lodge three times--twice in production of television projects. I loved the place so much that I took my family there on vacation last year. From a filmmaking standpoint, it's everything you need in one place (Jeff even has an airplane!) Whatever you can think up, they can make happen. From a vacation perspective, it's a beautiful, quiet, relaxed environment which is equally great for vacationing and diving. There are reefs, walls, sharks, Blue Holes--pretty much any kind of diving you like from shallow to deep. And there is plenty to keep kids and non-diving family members happy. The food is spectacular and the staff has no equal anywhere I have been. I can't recommend SHBL enough!November, 2012

"We came here to work . . . and we ended up having a blast"UFO Hunters, History Channel April 2009
These guys came and stayed at Small Hope back in 2009. It was a great adventure for their crew and ours. They learned some of the history of the island and investigated some strange reports of happenings on Andros they had come across . . .
