What's Up At Small Hope

October 2001 - Click on the photos to see an enlargement:

We were still busy doing renovations, repairs, and such until October 12th. Generally we close for 4 - 6 weeks every year to do the sort of work that we prefer not to do when the guests are around. Guests can be funny about wanting water, electricity, not breathing paint fumes, etc. We reopened to beautiful weather and several interesting groups of guests. This particular family to your left came to us from England. We also had a group of divers, some fishermen, snorkelers, and those who just wanted to some "rest, relaxation, and rediscovery". Some of our guests from the states who arrived when we first reopened were a bit skittish about not be able to receive constant news about the "events following September 11th". Within a few hours they realized that it was a welcome relief not being bombarded with the news (and if something really important happened, we would certainly pass the information along).

Here is one of our fisherman after the elusive bonefish right here in the bay in front of the cabins. They are seen quite often in our bay. Notice "Dick's Tree" in the picture.

Halloween weekend was the event of the month here at Small Hope. The evening of October 27th Small Hope was transformed into a place for ghosts, goblins, witches, devils, and things that go bump in the night.

A few of our favorite repeat guests (Adam, Katherine, and Laura) along with Dick's widow, Mona Birch, created quite a Halloween party atmosphere in the lounge and outside bar area of Small Hope.

We had other "family" visit us in the form of Peter Douglas, Gabrielle, and their kids. Beth and Tim Turnbull and their kids helped with the costumes, make-up and a skit including the disemboweling of Jeff's son, Brian. Rumor has it that Jeff's girlfriend, Nicole, was dressed as a French maid, but she was behind the camera that day ...

About 90% of our guests donned costumes and between the magic tricks by Adam, the scary surprises, and the late night dancing, a good time was had by all. Amid all of the Halloween reverlry this month we did find time for diving as seen in the "Noble Art of Diving" certificate ceremony in the center picture below. We had a British travel writer, Nigel Tisdal, and his family visiting us this month and they are the "devilish" family you see below.

And now for this month's drink selection from a couple who survived Small Hope's Halloween celebration ...

Small Hope Nookie:

1/2 oz Galiano, 1 oz Dark Rum, 1 oz Coconut Rum,

1 oz Lime Juice, 1 oz Cream, 2 packages of sugar,

Shake with ice and enjoy ...

See you next month ...
