Get married on the beach in a simple ceremony by the sea. We'll arrange it all, plus a reception for up to forty of your closest friends. All you have to do is show up!
For more than forty years, weddings have been a celebrated part of life at Small Hope Bay. Three generations of Birches have been married here. We'll bring a family warmth and tropical style to your Bahamas wedding day.
We'll build you an arch of flowers, and make head wreaths, anklets, corsages and bouquets using blooms from our nearby gardens. We will decorate our outdoor patio with colorful Androsia fabric, ferns, and flowers and let the sea provide its own magnificent backdrop.
We'll arrange the paper work and contact the appropriate officials to perform the ceremony. We'll host your reception, serving up tasty hors d'oeuvres of our island specialties: conch fritters, grouper fingers, curried chicken wings, and more. An elegant tropical-style wedding cake, and sparkling champagne complete the celebration, that usually rolls right into the dinner hour at Small Hope Bay Lodge.

Thanks to everyone for the best island wedding and honeymoon that anyone could possibly have.  We will capture the event on video, using your favorite CDs for music. We will also take your digital pictures and give you a CD to take home. All you have to do is show up and enjoy the moment! You might even want to stick around for the honeymoon!
As with all things in life the weather can be a bit unpredictable. If it rains, we can have your ceremony inside our glass room or lounge. If it is windy, you can have it on the patio with a screen covered in native plants and flowers.
All of the photos you see on this page are from recent Small Hope weddings. These couples all had from 2 - 40 of their friends, other guests, and our staff enjoying the event with them. We can also do much more private ceremonies, if you prefer. You can get married in our pine grove, on the beach, on a secluded cay, or even underwater (please give us advance notice for that, the only minister in the area who can scuba dive is in Nassau). If you would like to renew your vows, we would be happy to accommodate that. We strive to have your Bahamas Wedding be an event to remember fondly.

THE VENUE
Small Hope Bay Lodge offers you a true tropical experience with an easy island style. The resort has twenty cottages (including a Honeymoon cottage!) plus two beaches, delicious food, a help-yourself bar, and simple all-inclusive rates. Our rooms have no phones or TVs, and our guests never have to wear shoes. The focus in on a natural environment and the enjoyment of our guests.
For activities we have diving, snorkeling, fishing, eco-tours, hammocks, kayaks, windsurfers, bicycles, nature walks, and a small sailboat. For adventure, the third largest barrier reef in the world lies just one mile offshore. We have a full-service dive and snorkeling operation, and offer free Discover Scuba or snorkeling lessons for beginners.

The resort was opened in 1960 by Canadian Dick Birch, and under the same Birch family management, continues its dedication to offering a natural refuge for rest, relaxation, rediscovery and romance.

LAWS AND CUSTOMS REGARDING GETTING MARRIED IN THE BAHAMAS
The usual confirmations concerning present single status and eligibility for marriage are required.

Non-Bahamians wishing to get married in the Bahamas need to be in the country 24 hours prior to applying for a marriage license. A Bahamian-issued marriage license is valid for 90 days. Cost is $100; no blood tests are required.
Small Hope Bay Lodge is happy to assist you with obtaining a marriage license through our local government offices when you reach Andros. Please note that while ceremonies are performed during the weekend, all paperwork and associated business must take place during normal Government office hours, Monday through Friday.
